Self Love for Valentines with Helen Turner

  • Flo Yoga Homerton Unit 4, Digby Works 130 Homerton High Street London, England, E9 6JA United Kingdom (map)

An afternoon of restoration, love and self care to celebrate You this Valentines.

An extended practice of Embodied Yin and Myofascial Release Techniques. A slow somatic practice to ground, connect with your heart and give yourself the self love you deserve.

Embodied Yin:

Held postures (3-5mins) using yoga props (eg. bolsters, blankets, blocks)

Based in Traditional Chinese Medicine Meridian Lines stimulating and opening the Heart (Fire) and Stomach (Earth) meridians in the front of the body, exploring the movement of Qi through the body. Embodied Yin is a less structured take on traditional yin which allows for more free movement within postures, particularly in the rebound from the poses.

Myofascial Release techniques: Self massage - using small tennis balls and larger soft Pilates balls to work into the tissues in front line of the body.

By combining the ancient (Chinese medicine) with the modern (recent scientific research into fascia), this practise is beneficial on many levels:

  1. Releases tension in the fascial web allowing for better function of the muscles & unrestricted movement.

  2. Increases Parasympathetic activity - the bodies ability to rest & digest

  3. Increases mind body connection or Interoception. Creates space for the body to process undigested experiences. Develops connection with the subtle energetic body.
